Visit of Street Youth to the National Museum of Cameroon

The National Museum of Cameroon, located in Yaoundé, is a true treasure for anyone wishing to discover the rich cultural and historical heritage of Cameroon.

On February 28, 2025, a group of street-involved youth (27 boys and 9 girls) had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history and culture of their country. This initiative, organized by the Centre Edimar Princesse Grace (CEPG), aimed to offer these young people an educational and inspiring experience, far from their often difficult daily lives.

AN IMMERSION INTO HISTORY AND CULTURE

Upon arrival, the CEPG youth were struck by the grandeur of the building—an old presidential palace (that of Ahmadou Ahidjo) steeped in history. They were warmly welcomed by passionate guides who led them through the museum’s many rooms. Inside, the exhibitions took them on a journey through time and across the diverse cultures of Cameroon.

They discovered traditional art pieces, historical artefacts, and thematic displays showcasing the evolution of Cameroon through the centuries. The youth were captivated by the variety of the collections and the depth of the stories they told.

A LASTING AND POSITIVE IMPACT

Beyond the cultural discovery, this day was an opportunity for these young people to connect, share experiences, and enjoy a moment of togetherness.

The visit to the National Museum had a profound impact on the participants. They expressed their gratitude for this unique opportunity, which allowed them to reconnect with their heritage and build greater self-confidence.

The visit of street-involved youth to the National Museum of Cameroon was a true success. It offered them a magical escape from their everyday struggles and opened new perspectives for their future. This initiative highlights the importance of making culture accessible to all, and the powerful role it plays in building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
